Matthew Caruana Galizia named in European Young Leaders 2020 class

Matthew Caruana Galizia has been announced as the one of the members of the prestigious European Young Leaders class of 2020 for his work as an investigative journalist and fighting corruption.

Caruana Galizia, the son of assassinated journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, was chosen for his work as lead engineer in the Paradise Papers investigation and his work to bring justice and reveal the truth around his mother’s death.

The European Young Leaders (EYL40) class of 2020 includes entrepreneurs, authors, politicians, a stand-up comedian, a photographer and a ballet dancer, among others. The second group will be announced in the coming weeks.

In a tongue-in-cheek post, Caruana Galizia said he was going to continue fighting for the truth to come out.

For almost a decade the EYL40 programme has brought together the brightest minds and outside the box leaders to put their innovative thinking to work at building a more forward-thinking Europe that is a global champion for a better world. This year’s class, for the first time, includes leaders from the Balkans including the Albanian deputy justice minister.

The European Young Leaders represent a new generation of leaders, able to tackle the increasing disconnects between citizens and political elites, to rebuild the trust that is vital to democracies – particularly as we enter this uncertain new decade.
